In the hold of the Death Starfish was kept a cursed diamond ring. Any person who wore it was instantly transformed into gold.

When Guybrush Threepwood stabbed LeChuck with a faulty Cursed Cutlass of Kaflu it released a terrible pox on the Gulf of Melange which turned many people into violent, green skinned monsters. Somehow it only affected pirates.
